So tell me, who loves Nutella?? That chocolaty, nutty, sweet, nut butter, so creamy and indulgent over toast, fruit or devoured straight out the container?? I mean, who doesn’t love all that? Well, not this person! Why you ask? Simple. Because Nutella is not natural. Let’s see why:
Nutella’s ingredients contain the following: sugar, palm oil,hazelnuts, cocoa, skim milk, reduced minerals whey (milk), lecithin as emulsifier (soy), vanillin: an artificial flavor.
Now, tell me what’s natural about reduced minerals whey and vanillin, which clearly states is an artificial flavor? In addition, what type of sugar are we talking here? Makes no mention of the specific type of sugar, because yes, that does matter. Since it doesn’t specify the type of sugar, it’s absolutely safe to assume it’s the highly processed, refined white sugar in which most companies that don’t specify, use. Nothing natural about this. Nothing real about it. Nothing good about it. The first thing that should make you realize something isn’t good for you is the fact that the first ingredient is sugar. This is a huge deal that should automatically trigger you to stop and see “Buyer Beware!” As per federal government regulations, all foods listed in the ingredient list are in the order of their quantity from the most to least. Meaning, the first ingredients make up the most, if not all, of the product. Therefore, Nutella is made up of nearly all sugar. AND, it’s not even a decent type of sugar. It’s the highly processed, refined, bleached “white” sugar we are told by who else, that it’s better for us, when in fact, it is not. This is one of the many reason why we are seeing skyrocketing rates of obesity, diabetes, and so many more illnesses not just amongst ourselves, but also amongst our children and can be traced to our toxic food supply.
This is why it is super important to question where your food comes from and what is in your food. Most big named, brand named companies per FDA and USDA regulations, are allowing the use of toxic ingredients like “sugar,” “corn syrup,” vanillin- an artificial flavor, which can’t be more blatant as it states so on the container, and so much more! It is therefore, not up them to keep you and your family healthy. It is up to you! The system is set up so you eat their food, get sick enough that you’re still alive, still part of the system, but end up needing a doctor who usually prescribes medications that mask the symptoms of a deeper underlying cause, but not explain in detail about the necessary lifestyles you must make to be healthy, so continue to eat more toxic foods, all causing you to repeat this unhealthy, unproductive cycle. Once again, you must educate yourself. Research. Ask questions. Find reliable sources that make you feel as if you are going in the right direction with your health. Reading the ingredients on the Nutella container should cause red flags to go up because you don’t understand what most of the ingredients are and that can be potentially hazardous to your health. However, homemade versions of Nutella should completely make you feel confident that you are making a healthier, more natural choice and the fact it’s super simple and so inexpensive, should make you even more thrilled to just make your own!
My homemade version includes just 2 simple ingredients: dry roasted hazelnuts and dairy free chocolate chips (I used Enjoy Life’s). Just simply combine both ingredients into a blender (I used my NutriBullet), blend for about 30 seconds and voila, you’re done! You can store the homemade Nutella in a jar, Pyrex container, etc for days at a time without it going bad. You can adjust the servings to make more or less. You don’t need additional random ingredients like whey, vanillin, emulsifiers, etc or added oils because hazelnuts are full on naturally occurring heart healthy fats and comes out super smooth and creamy. When you can, always choose to make your own. It’s super healthy, super easy and super delicious! So now, which one do you think is better?
